Hadronyche Marracoonda Australian Funnel Web Spider

Hadronyche marracoonda, also known as the Marracoonda funnel-web spider. It is a species of funnel-web spider found in southeastern Australia, including parts of New South Wales, Victoria, and South Australia. This spider is one of the smaller species in the genus Hadronyche, with females reaching up to 6 cm in length and males up to 4.5cm.

The Hadronyche marracoonda spider is dark brown or black in color, with a glossy appearance. Its legs are long and robust, and it has eight eyes arranged in two rows, with the front two eyes being larger than the others. This species is primarily terrestrial. Its funnel-shaped web can be found in leaf litter or under rocks on the forest floor.

Like other funnel-web spiders, it is highly venomous, with its venom capable of causing serious symptoms in humans if bitten. However, there have been no recorded human fatalities from this species. The antivenom for Hadronyche marracoonda is the same as that used for the Sydney funnel-web spider (Atrax robustus), which is also found in Australia.

Despite its potential danger, it is an important part of the ecosystem in southeastern Australia. It plays a role in controlling insect populations. It is also a fascinating and important species for scientific study. Particularly in understanding the evolution and ecology of funnel-web spiders.
